- Condition: A confirmed interline ticket with fixed dates and itinerary to a third destination. Stay up to 240 hours (10 days).
- Allowed purposes: Tourism, business, exchange visits, family visits. Not for employment, study, or journalism.
- Coverage: Any of 65 ports across 24 provincial-level regions, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, and Xi'an. You can move between the covered provinces.
- US→China→US does not qualify. The trip must end in a third country.

Hainan: 30-Day Visa-Free Entry
- Who: Ordinary passport holders from 61 countries, the US is on the list. Kyrgyzstan and Vietnam were added August 20, 2026 (was 59).
- Condition: Enter through Hainan's open ports (air, business charter, or cruise; via Hong Kong or Macau if no direct flight). Stay up to 30 days, counted from 00:00 the day after arrival.
- Allowed purposes: Tourism, business, family visits, medical treatment, conferences and exhibitions, sports events. Not for long-term work or study.
- Coverage: Hainan province only, you cannot continue to other parts of China under this policy.

ASEAN Group Tours to Xishuangbanna
- Who: Tourist groups of two or more ordinary passport holders from any of the 10 ASEAN countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam).
- Condition: In effect since February 10, 2025. Travel as an organized group and stay up to 6 days.
- Coverage: Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan. Entry through designated ports such as Mohan, which sits on the China–Laos railway.
- Individual ASEAN travelers still follow the standard visa or transit rules.
30-Day Unilateral Visa-Free (50 Countries)
- Who: Ordinary passport holders from 50 countries as of early 2026: France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, and more. The US is not on this list.
- Condition: Extended through December 31, 2026. Up to 30 days per stay for business, tourism, family visits, exchange, and transit.
- Latest change: Sweden joined November 10, 2025.
- US citizens: Do not rely on this track. Use the 240-hour transit, Hainan, or an L visa.
